Brands: Warren fastest in Supersport practice
Sam Warren was the quickest man in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship free practice session this afternoon at Brands Hatch with a lap time of 46.834. He got within 0.026 seconds of Sam Lowes’ lap record set back in April of 2010. The Seton Tuning Yamaha rider was more half a second quicker than the second placed rider, Glen Richards.
Richards, however, managed just 12 laps after a collision with Pauli Pekkanen at Druids. His time of 47.370 stood at the top of the timesheets until Warren toppled it with just seconds remaining. Billy McConnell made it a Smiths of Gloucester Truimph two, three but he is still 0.757 seconds adrift of Warren's lap time. The 2011 British Supersport runner-up, Ben Wilson, put his Gearlink Kawasaki into fourth and was quickly followed by Irishman Jack Kennedy.
Glenn Irwin and Luke Mossey were equal for sixth but the 2011 Superstock 600 runner-up, Irwin, had his session ended abruptly after an off as he exited Paddock Hill Bend. Irwin was also the quickest of the Cup competitors. Richard Cooper, Christian Iddon and Sam Hornsey rounded out the top 10.
Second of the Cup riders was Luke Jones followed by Luke Stapleford, who only completed ten laps after a crash as he entered Graham Hill Bend. Dean Hipwell and Pauli Pekkanen were 13th and 14th followed by Jimmy Hill rounding out the top 15 after a gentle get off at Druids with minutes remaining.
